Troubleshooting

 

1. If any graphics fail to appear or an error message about insufficient memory comes up, you may need to increase the memory allocated to your browser.

Macintosh: Click once on the broswer icon and go to the "File" menu in the Finder. Scroll down to "Get Info." A dialog box will appear that will allow you to increase the memory allocated to the browser. Set the memory to (at least) 5000-6000K minimum and 12000K preferred.

 

2. If you cannot print a screen using the "Print Screen" button, you need to change the security features of the plug-in. Whenever you first open an Authorware file using the Shockwave for Authorware plug-in, a dialog box appears. This box asks if you wish to open this particular Authorware file. You may click "OK" and proceed immediately, but this will prevent you from printing the screens. Instead you should click the "Security Options" button. This will take you to a second window, where you must indicate if you wish to proceed in "trusting mode" or "non-trusting mode." If you wish to be able to print screens, you must select "trusting mode." You do this by clicking the "trust all locations" button.

 

3. If the presentation window is too large or too small, you need to change your monitor resolution.

a. Macintosh: Go to the Apple menu in the Finder, scroll down to Control Panels, and select Monitors & Sound. If the window is too small, change the resolution to 640 x 480 pixels. If the window is too large, change the resolution to 832 x 624 or 1024 x 768 pixels. The correct setting for you will depend on the size of your monitor.

b. Windows: Go to the Start menu, scroll up to Settings, and select Control Panel. Then double-click on Display. Locate the Settings tab and a window will open that will allow you to modify the display area of the screen. If the Authorware presentation window is too small, move the resolution down to 640 x 480; if the presentation window is too large, move the resolution up to 800 x 600 or higher.
